Frequently asked questions

Do I need a NSW builder’s licence for my work?

If you are carrying out residential building work or specialist trade work in NSW, licensing rules are strict. Tell us your scope and we will confirm the correct path.

What is the difference between a builder general licence and a trade class?

A builder general licence covers residential building work of a broader scope. Trade classes cover defined categories. We match your qualifications and experience to the class that fits.

How many projects do I need to evidence for a first time application?

Quality matters more than volume. As a rule, three strong project packs that prove planning, coordination and control are far better than many incomplete examples.

Can my company hold the licence?

Yes. Companies can be licensed but must have a nominated supervisor who holds the right individual authority. ASIC and licence particulars must align.

What if I have a prior refusal or insolvency?

Disclosure is critical. It is still possible to succeed with proper evidence and submissions. We manage the narrative and provide the supporting documents the decision maker expects.

How long will Fair Trading take?

Timeframes vary and depend on completeness of the file and any follow up requests. Our focus is to reduce delay by lodging a complete and coherent brief the first time.

What happens if my application is refused or conditions are imposed?

You can seek internal review and, in many cases, administrative review at the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Strict time limits apply. We act quickly and file targeted submissions.

Does HBCF insurance affect my licence?

HBCF is a separate insurer process. It does not decide your licence but it affects your ability to take certain residential projects. We help you plan both tracks so you can operate once licensed.

How does the DBP regime interact with my licence?

For class 2 and some mixed use projects, DBP duties sit alongside licensing. We make sure your licence pathway is compatible with any DBP registrations you need for real world delivery.
